I loves movies.
Needless to say, I buy a lot of goddamn movies. I love to. I find it very fun. I like to only buy movies that I really really like, however. I'd like to have an amazing collection. Before I left Calgary, I'd bought and received (for mine birthday) a shitload of movies. Since I've gotten here I've bought 7 more. Huzzah! Starting a new movie collection heh heh....
Since here I've picked up Poltergeist, The Ice Storm, Don Juan DeMarco, Zatoichi, Superman, Serpico, and Dark City. I've just finished watching Superman.
Which is kind of funny. Since I've gotten here I've been doing something weird with movies. Instead of watching them in one go, I'll watch them over a span of three or four days, watching 40 minute to an hour long segment each time, sometimes rewatching large segments, or overlapping them as I go. I did that with the Ice Storm first, and really got inside the movie, though I have yet to watch it from beginning to end and get the full continuity of it. I wouldn't mind doing that though, that movie blows my mind. I've done that with Superman over the last few days, and I FUCKING LOVE that movie. It's so playful and silly, and then surprisingly elegent, but all kinds of cool things all over. It's a perfect example of a movie that has perfect casting. None of the major roles would have been as great as they were if they hadn't put Mr. Reeve, Brando, and Hackman in the places that they did.
I've still never seen Zatoichi or Serpico. I expect that I will love them both. I had never seen The Ice Storm when I bought it (for $8), but I was pretty sure it would be my kind of thing.
Made $140 last night. I have $210 saved up from tips (since I give myself a little portion of it to spend each day). Without touching my paychecks (to save for Vancouver) I can still have plenty to get the laptop I've picked out. $999 US, I think. How much is that Canadian?

I liked it way too much. There are some surprisingly amazing scenes in that movie....

I agree. There are just these little touches in every single minute of the original (and the first sequel, actually--no surprise, seeing as how they were filmed back to back) that make everything much more... "real" isn't quite the word. Full of a playful, sincere passion.

The Ice Storm is so incredible, even more so because Ang Lee who grew up in China managed to get such an intense depiction of early 60's America...partly I think because he is an outsider he caught things and was able to capture them better than most American directors I've seen try.
Poltergeist is a movie I grew up with, its a classic.
